Practice Patience
A major mistake when playing poker online is to play marginal hands. Often players resort to this when they have been on the receiving end of a long string of cold cards at the casino. They get bored just being at a poker table, but having to fold, and fold and fold again. Players want action, and bad cards bring you to a dead halt. That in turn, creates boredom.
Don’t let boredom drive your decisions about what cards to play. It is a sure way to dispose of your chips. Marginal hands like 7/8 suited or a weak Ace begin to look good to the bored player who has had to fold hand after hand, especially when plyaing poker online. By folding often, you will create a table image of being a rock solid player – a factor you can exploit with a bluff at some point.
Instead of chasing with bad cards, focus on the action around you. It is a good time to study your opponents’ styles so then when you do get cards, you can maximize the profit potential. Practice reading the board and identifying your opponents’ hand ranges. Figure out which players have loose standards for starting hands and which players are tight. .
Bad stretches of cards are just part of the game. You must be able to accept this and avoid the pitfall of boredom. When you are not actively in a hand, and it could be for an extended period of time, use it to study the table so you can best leverage a strong starter hand when it finally comes.
