Wigs: A Beautiful Soul’s Longing for the Perfect Wings
We never thought the indestructible Colleen Upton, my high school BFF, could wear lace front wigs. Her trademark hair and fashion was synonymous with her mystique. Get this. There’s no question she will be eternally known because of her impeccable looks. Very few realize she lives confidently wearing wigs. You’d be surprised!
Back in the day as young girls in Arizona, we used to stole the spotlights to every dance. A few years went by before her women’s hair loss kicked in and she went bald. I hinted about a few invisible lace wigs. Oh well, she shrugged it off. What a strong soul, she fearlessly unveiled her threadbare confidence.
Obliged to show at her fiance’s homecoming, we ate nuts until a guy on other team purposefully flung the little ball (or whatever they play with) at us. My bff dove for the ball and her bandana landed in a beer, revealing her bald head. Like nothing happened, she lobbed it playfully to her man. That’s so her!
Of course, it eventually got to her. The same summer at our semi-monhtly cookie baking marathon, where she grabbed my arm and confided that she prefers to do without hair out of bitterness. She loved her old hair so much she can’t even spend money on medical wigs, even if she wanted her hair back. She then miss invincible changed the subject and begged that I can’t mention it again. I didn’t know what to say.
I thought about it all night. Later on, I IM’d with her about settling the wig issue. Eventually the two of us came to the obvious conclusion: lace front wigs for all! I used my credit card, and it was worth it.
Not sure who was more flabbergasted by the fashionable styles. She never imagined that women’s medical wigs could be so professionally crafted for so many women. These synthetic wigs were marvelous. As for me, coordinated a completely contemporary wardrobe to wear with my wig. We’re inseparable, forever and always. For my birthday she gave me a photo of us in our wigs and thanked me for reuniting, and disclosed that it invites new vibrance in her life. It’s my pleasure to witness my best friend reclaim her beauty. She’s a better person, with the same confidence.
